Books. I remember growing up close to a public library. As a kid if I wasn’t at the library, I was at home with a stack (messy pile, if we want to be technical) of books from the library. To say I was a book nerd would be an understatement. Some of my happiest childhood memories were of summer reading programs (all the stamps and stickers!) and autumn Scholastic book fairs (all the books!). So when I came across this story, I just had to share it.
Meet Ron Lynch and Matthew Flores:
Ron, who works as a carrier for the Sandy Post Office in Utah, was going about his route when he noticed a little boy going through the junk mail bin. When asked what the little boy was doing, Matthew replied he was looking for something to read. This sparked a conversation between the two and Ron quickly learned that Matthew was an avid reader but his family did not have the means to afford books or the bus fare to get to the closest library. An avid reader himself, Ron shared a photo of Matthew on Facebook asking for books. The photo went viral and was shared over 11,000 times.
Books were sent from all over the world giving Matthew the opportunity to explore different worlds from inside those pages. Just one small kindness. Nerding it forward.
Thank *you*, Mr. Lynch.
